Indian police to crack down on poor Wi-Fi security
Poorly secured wireless connections in the city of Mumbai are to be targeted by Indian police in a crackdown aimed at ensuring the connections have proper internet security practices.
According to the Times of India, police in the city will soon take to the streets with a laptop in a bid to identify such networks, which can lead to grave implications for innocent users.
The deputy commissioner of police Sanjay Mohite is quoted by the newspaper as saying that those found with poor online security will be ordered to tighten their measures.
"If a particular place's Wi-Fi is not password protected or secured then the policeman at the spot has the authority to issue notice to the owner of the Wi-Fi connection directing him to secure the connection," he said.
The crackdown comes on the back of last year's incident in which hackers compromised an internet user's network and sent out an email regarding the Mumbai terror attacks.
