Indian police go for cyber crooks
Cyber crime police in India have embarked on an operation to net hackers who have reportedly been creating online security issues for many individuals, by compromising email accounts.
This follows a spate of email hacks, thought to be the easiest of break-ins that have left many individuals in distress, according to the Times of India.
According to the newspaper, police in Kolkata have now come to grips with the global nature of the crimes and have put in place measures to combat the crooks through IP address identification.
Deputy commissioner of police Jawed Shamim said: "We now have the resources and the expertise to take on these hackers."
However, even with the new developments, cyber crime police are still warning individuals to be cautious when online by adopting simple internet security measures.
A detective said: "Install a good virus scanner program and update virus information files at least weekly. Change passwords regularly and keep confidential information, such as bank or financial account numbers, on removable disks, not on the hard disk."
