Indian authorities on receiving end of spyware
Indian authorities are reported to be battling an internet security breach that has left up to 600 computers infected by malware.
According to local news provider Indian Express, the country's ministry of external affairs (MEA) has been hit by a spyware that is designed to pry into victims' data.
The online security breach first came to light when email communications between staff belonging to a government minister were discovered to be also going to a third party.
Further investigations revealed that the problem spread beyond the office and fingers are being pointed towards Chinese hackers, according to the newspaper.
In an attempt to keep a handle on the organisation's internet security staffers have been advised to stay clear of social networking websites and private email accounts such as Gmail and Yahoo!
Government-linked networks in India have been subjected to such attacks before.
A few months back, Indian and Pakistani hackers engaged in revenge attacks that involved hacking into each others' government-linked computer networks.
