Indian authorities in efforts to counter phishing
Incidents of cyber crime involving phishing attacks against high profile Indian banks have increased significantly, the premier organisation in charge of public policy for the Indian software industry has revealed.
The National Association of Software Companies (Nasscom) says September and October recorded a sharp rise in the scams and 400 such attacks have so far been reported in the last few months.
Among those that have been put on the receiving end by cyber crooks are Bank of India, lender HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank, according to CXO Today.
"There is high awareness at the government level and the number of attacks proves that we are at the cusp of a significant increase," said Nasscom president Som Mittal.
However, authorities in the country are putting up a fight against this and police officers are being armed with the necessary knowledge to hit back, Kamlesh Bajaj, the chief executive of Data Security Council of India said.
Cyber laboratories in Maharashtra and Bangalore are being used to train police officers.
