Indian anti-virus website infected by virus
The determination of cyber crooks to expose users to online threats has been highlighted following the revelation that an Indian anti-virus website was infected with malware.
The website of AVsoft Technologies was reportedly compromised this week by hackers who left it infected with a booby trap bearing a variant of the Virut virus, a full disclosure mailing list revealed.
The unidentified cyber crooks infected AVsoft, which makes the SmartCOP antivirus package, with the malicious programme designed to open a backdoor on infected PCs.
According to the Register, the infamous iFrame exploit was used on one of the download pages of the website in the attack said to be popularly used to infect legitimate websites.
The news comes in the wake of a recent statement from James Finch, head of the FBI's Cyber Division, that many internet users just "don't have the level of knowledge" required to protect them from online threats.
