India urged to be wary of fraudsters
PC users in India are being urged to take precautions when checking their email accounts.
The Indian MSN website has issued a stark warning for those with computers, reminding them that emails which demand information such as their bank account details or passwords are unlikely to be genuine.
It notes that often such emails are phishing attacks, fraudulent messages created by cybercrooks designed to trick people out of important information, usually in order to steal from them.
"Banks do not send customers e-mail or SMS to ask for sensitive information like passwords and the like," the resource explains.
In a previous post, MSN called for people to take certain precautions online as a matter of course - such as not banking at a public computer and always logging off a website when a task is completed.
Furthermore, people should ensure they are protected online by a firewall, it added.
