Increase in 'sleeping' trojans discovered
A number of popular websites have been infected by a computer virus, which is gradually making its way across the internet, reports the Times.
The malware in question, which has been labelled jsrootkit by IT security firm Finjan, is designed with an encryption, so that antivirus scanners are unable to detect it.
"This is a very smart program," Yuval Ben-Itzhak, chief technology officer of the San Jose-based company, told the newspaper.
"It' really trying to fool everybody and hide itself from everything that is out there today in the anti-virus market."
He added that the hackers responsible for this aim to keep the malicious code running "for as long as possible" in order to infect as many computers as possible, as well as collect information.
The Banking Times reported this week that the latest online threat is a Trojan horse virus dubbed "silentbanker", which tries to tap into customer bank accounts.
