Home PCs 'at risk of spyware'
Although spying used to be restricted to areas suffering political turmoil, many normal home computers are now being watched by criminals, a commentator has remarked.
A blogger known only as ZyberDon made his comments in the Juneayasol journal, warning users that of their computer has slowed down or they find themselves being bombarded with pop-ups, it could be that the PC is infected.
The most common problem programs are adware and spyware, ZyberDon continued.
While some spyware simply monitors a person's online activities, other programs are used by criminals in order to steal sensitive information, the blogger warned.
"Be sure to install a reliable and secure adware and spyware cleaner [onto] your system to remove existing security and privacy risks as well as preventing future hassle," the post concluded.
It is recommended by the British security resource Get Safe Online that people ensure their machines are protected from malware and other infections by installing anti-virus software and a firewall.
