Harry Potter actress condemns Twitter impersonators
Harry Potter actress Emma Watson has condemned fraudsters who recently impersonated her on the micro-blogging site Twitter.
A Press Association report on March 3rd suggested that the actress, who plays Hermione Grainger in the film series, had been accepted to study at Yale University in the US.
Ms Watson had supposedly confirmed the offer via her Twitter account.
However, a spokesperson has now revealed that the young actress "does not have a Twitter account" and branded the rumours "false", according to online security expert Graham Cluley's Sophos blog.
The statement reads: "Emma is still trying to decide whether she wants to attend university in the UK or the USA and hasn't accepted any placements at this time."
Mr Cluley points out that this is just one of a number of recent online impersonations as anybody can create a Twitter account and claim to be a famous person, highlighting the importance of stringent internet security measures.
"The message is simple," he claims. "Seek proper confirmation that you're communicating with the person you really think you are."
