Hackers target job seekers with Malware
Hackers are turning to recruitment sites and using them to infect job seekers' computers with malware and other security threats, a new report has claimed.
According to behavioural analysis IT security specialist Tier-3, users are being lured into recruitment sites with the promise of better paying job opportunities only to end up "with is an infected PC or worse".
Geoff Sweeney, Tier-3's CTO said: "Internet users think the email and its associated RTF file are genuine, but they end up infecting their PCs with a Trojan that opens their machines up to remote hackers."
He claimed the company's research has uncovered a "legitimate ad" hosted by an Australian recruitment website with an embedded Adobe PDF file for download.
"Internet users think the email and its associated RTF file are genuine, but they end up infecting their PCs with a Trojan that opens their machines up to remote hackers," he said.
He said such threats were almost impossible to stop owing to 'human psychology'.
Meanwhile an expert last week warned against ignorance and advised internet users to be aware of the various online threats their machines faced.
