Hackers 'surprised by interest in attack'
A pair of hackers have expressed their surprise at the amount of coverage generated by their recent attack on a prominent website.
Hackers using the monikers Defiant and EBK have admitted that they attacked the Comcast website but expressed incredulity that so much fuss had resulted.
Although they accessed 200 sites, the pair who organise the hacking group Kryogenic vandalised only one, changing a contact address on the page to signal their online threat.
They took the action only after having reported their hack to the site's technical manager, who failed to believe them, Digital Trends reports.
Such actions highlight the vulnerability of many people and companies to hacker activity, however.
Defiant - also known as James - told Wired: "The situation has kind of blown up here a lot bigger than I thought it would. I wish I was a minor right now because this is going to be really bad."
Last year Digital Trends reported upon a group of hackers who succeeded in breaking into the United Nations site and defacing pages reserved for statements from secretary general Ban Ki-Moon.
