Hackers 'now using Microsoft Word'
A new development in malware means hackers can now conceal their programs in Word documents, users have been warned.
Several online technology resources are warning PC owners that their older copies of Microsoft Word could contain elements which make them vulnerable to computer attack.
However, Windows Vista users appear to be safe from such security issues.
News resource Digital Trends suggested that consumers avoid opening attachments from people they do not know and ensure their machines are protected by firewalls, anti-virus software and anti-spyware programs.
Responding to the issue, Microsoft urged users to protect their machines using security software and to apply all updates it offers to its Office programs.
It highlighted that in order to fall victim to this new threat, a user must choose to visit a compromised website or open an attachment and suggested they remain cautious about the links they click and the documents they open.
