Hackers move fast to exploit DNS flaw
Following the erroneous publishing of the Domain Name System (DNS) flaw details earlier this week, reports have emerged that hackers have already produced software designed to exploit the anomaly.
According to PC World, developers of the Metasploit hacking toolkit are behind the release of the attack code, which internet security experts fear could allow hackers to carry out attacks without being detected.
"What makes this whole thing really scary is that from an end-user perspective they may not notice anything," said Zulfikar Ramizan, a technical director with Symantec.
The flaw could also allow cyber criminals to redirect users to fake websites offering software updates, which could leave many infected with malware and spyware.
Experts are worried that many consumers have not put in place appropriate patches yet which has been termed "a gigantic problem for the world".
The technical details of the flaw, which was first brought to light by IOActive security researcher Dan Kaminsky were accidentally leaked to the web by security company Matasano.
