Hackers make the best of Olympic Games to pose online threats
Cyber crooks have reportedly taken advantage of the ongoing Beijing Olympic Games to infect websites with malware.
Users are being warned that many websites streaming Olympic content have been compromised through a new wave of SQL injection attacks leaving many consumers exposed to online threats.
One such website is New Delhi Television Limited's NDTV.com, which has been booby-trapped with codes designed to install malware onto users' computers, says the Register.
The cyber crooks are said to be using an Asprox attack toolkit, which has been used in recent times for drive-by download attacks and relies on vulnerabilities on websites and a lack of proper internet security to carry out infections.
Hackers can use the tool to search for vulnerable websites which they then infect with malicious codes. The codes then redirect users to websites controlled by hackers where they are exposed to the threats.
The revelation comes in the wake of earlier warnings by online security expert Sophos that cyber crooks were out to exploit the ongoing games.
