Hackers launch attacks on Israeli websites
Cyber crooks have joined the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine by launching attacks at Israeli run websites in the US, an internet security expert has revealed.
Several websites belonging to small Israeli-run businesses have been targeted in the attacks, which feature anti-Israeli messages, online security specialist Fortify Software says.
"Our observations suggest that a large number of web sites have been defaced by a variety of hacker groups from Iran, Lebanon, Morocco and Turkey, and the trend is accelerating," says security expert Bruce Jenkins.
"In the past, attacks were focused on the Department of Defense and other government organisations. But as the government, led by the US Air Force, has built up its cyber defences, hackers need to move to less suspecting targets."
According to Vnunet.com, some high-profile websites such as Ynetnews.com and the Bank Discount website have also been compromised.
IT staff at websites belonging to organisations that may be attacked have been advised to ensure their internet security software is up-to-date and monitor their networks for any activity.
