Hackers focusing on virtualised networks
Online security experts have warned organisations turning to virtualised networks that hackers are increasingly turning their attention to these environments, reports state.
The networks reportedly suffer from vulnerabilities, which could be exploited by hackers to obtain sensitive information as well as cause other sorts of online threats, states the US Computer Emergency Readiness Team.
According to internet security vendor, Fortify Software, despite the growing popularity of these networks, virtual server users are also still at risk of online threats as many conventional security applications do not fully protect them.
"It's a whole new security ballgame, which is why we urge anyone contemplating migrating over to the benefits of a virtual server system to review their IT security systems," said Rob Rachwald, Fortify's director of product marketing.
"It's also one of the reasons why we predict that virtual server patches will become commonplace in the months ahead."
The warnings come in the wake of last week's caution and release of patches by virtualisation market leader VMware, which stated that at least 16 vulnerabilities plague the environments.
