Hackers find new routes into consumer computers
Hackers are finding new ways to infiltrate consumer computers and other electronic gadgets and infect them with viruses, it has been suggested.
According to a report from Associated Press tech writer Jordan Robertson, major computer firms could be among those leaving themselves vulnerable to malevolent hacking intrusions while their goods are being manufactured.
The problem of infected computers reaching shelves around the world stems from an inability to prevent factory workers, whether innocently or deliberately, from uploading viruses to certain products as they are being made, Mr Robertson has explained.
Providing his expert take on the situation, Marcus Sachs, who runs the security research group Sans Internet Storm Center, said: "It's like the old cockroach thing - you flip the lights on in the kitchen and they run away."
"You think you've got just one cockroach? There's probably thousands more of those little boogers that you can't see," he added.
Meanwhile, Apple's attitude towards viruses affecting windows applications run on its computers is equivalent to a recently-burgled homeowner being blamed their own problems because they did not have stronger locks, according to a recent feature in Apple Matters.
