Hackers compromise Serbian government websites
Serbian government websites have reportedly been compromised by hackers in a bid to block access to them, reports say.
A group referring to itself as the Kosova Hackers Group is said to have caused online security issues for the Serbian parliament website, which was defaced with a Kosovo flag.
According to Belgrade radio station Radio B92, the hackers also claim to have attacked other key government websites including that of the Serbian military.
Commenting on the development, Slobodan Markovic, an expert adviser to the Serbian government, said: "These hackers use programmes that are readily available on the internet and can be downloaded for free.
"They take that kind of software and use it to scan, say, all sites that end with the address 'gov.yu.' When these programs find some vulnerability in the software, they use that and change the title of the site or do something similar."
Internet security researchers from the Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto recently stated that cyber attacks have evolved to become a tool of war.
