Hackers compromise Sarah Palin's email account
Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has been left on the receiving end of cyber crooks after her personal email account was compromised by hackers, it has emerged.
A group calling itself Anonymous claimed to have carried out the attack, which left the Alaska governor's personal details exposed to online threats as the group published photos and email conversations.
The hackers published their exploits on Wikileaks.org in an apparent bid to highlight the governor's use of a private email account to conduct public affairs in contravention of the law.
A message on the site stated: "At around midnight last night some members affiliated with the group gained access to governor Palin's email account, 'gov.palin@yahoo.com' and handed over the contents."
In a reaction, McCain's campaign team described the hack as a "shocking invasion of the Governor's privacy" and said "we hope that anyone in possession of these e-mails will destroy them".
Palin has attracted criticism for using a personal e-mail account to conduct state business.
