Hackers breach epilepsy forum security
Hackers acting apparently through pure malice rather than for monetary gain have succeeded in cracking the website of the Epilepsy Foundation, it has been reported.
Australian IT reports that hackers attacked the site, sending many links to pages featuring flashing images.
An internet security hole in the site's publishing software allowed the hackers to upload a large number of posts swiftly, overwhelming its support forums.
Security industry commentator Paul Ferguson states: "I count this in the same category of teenagers who think it's funny to put a cat in a bag and throw it over a clothesline, they don't realise how cruel it is."
The news adds to a number of recent events highlighting the growing online security threat posed by hackers.
In recent days, ABC News suggested that counterfeit Chinese technology could present an opportunity for hackers to bypass computer protection systems.
