'Hacker course' to help public boost internet security
Members of the public are to be offered hints on how to cut down on computer crime through a new 'ethical hacking course', it has been announced.
Coming as growing numbers of businesses turn to internet security software to protect themselves from threats such as phishing and Trojans, the International Correspondence School has announced the launch of a new course targeted specifically at home users.
Through the distance-learning programme, students will be taught a number of tactics used by professional hackers, such as how to initiate 'denial of service' attacks and how to create viruses and harmful trojans.
Commenting on the launch, ICS education services director Julie Hepburn, told the Guardian: "We are very excited. Students can study on the move and at hours to suit themselves."
News of the new internet security educational programme comes just days after a new report from Cisco revealed that as many as nine in ten emails currently being sent across the globe are automatically-generated spam.
