Get Safe Online warns of inspiring cyber crooks
Following the release of a recent report that stated that cyber crooks may soon start targeting mobile devices due to their poor or lack of online security, experts have said this may inspire criminals into actually attempting to achieve this.
According to Get Safe Online, the report published by the Georgia Tech Information Security Center brought the issue to cyber crooks' minds and they may actually explore it.
"It will focus the criminals into thinking there is an opportunity which means that they might do more work on it than they initially were going to," said Tony Neat, managing director of Get Safe Online.
"There's a concern here as well - if you highlight an issue like that, it brings it to everyone's mind, especially a criminal's."
He went on to say that there was nothing to worry about yet as "what we've seen of it and what we've heard of it is a proof of concept".
Get Safe Online is a collaborative organisation made of the government, the Serious Organised Crime Agency and leading businesses aimed at helping individuals and small businesses combat internet security risks.
