Firms urged to take security precautions
Firms should ensure their receptionists are up to date on the dangers posed by online threats such as phishing to protect the company's system from malware and other web-based scams, an expert has asserted.
Industry commentator Stacy Collett, writing for Computer World, highlighted that receptionists are often at the "front line" of computer security and need to be equipped to deal with the dangers.
Staff must be warned of the dangers posed by social engineering scams, often referred to as phishing, she continued.
"Receptionists should also be trained with real-world scenarios to learn how to respond to information requests," Ms Collete recommended, highlighting that criminals may phone or email to request sensitive information on staff members.
Furthermore, no employee should be allowed to play on social media sites, download music or check their own private email, she added.
Last month, research organisation Forrester warned firms to be wary of hackers who infect their websites with malware and abuse their brands through sophisticated phishing assaults.
