Firms to boost security budgets in 2009
Encryption is set to be the top internet security priority for 2009 as firms look to boost IT budgets this year to counter ever increasing dangers posed by online threats, a report by Forrester Research says.
According to the report dubbed the State Of Enterprise IT Services: 2008, businesses are going to increase IT budgets this year to 12.6 per cent, up from 11.7 per cent last year.
The report states that full-disk encryption and file-level encryption will be the top online security technology to be adopted this year as companies concentrate their efforts in preventing data leaks.
A survey conducted by the firm shows that firms plan to spend more than half of IT security budgets on IT professionals and boosting their current online security infrastructure.
Respondents also fingered identity and access-management technologies, particularly single sign-on as one of the priorities in 2009.
A total of 942 IT and security managers based in North America and Europe participated in the research.
