Firefox in world record attempt
Firefox developers have launched a new version of the web browser in style- by creating a new Guinness world record.
Firefox 3 was launched into the market on Tuesday by owner Mozilla, whose target of achieving over 5 million software downloads in less than 24 hours was easily met.
At one point, more than 11,000 downloads per minute were recorded as users clamoured to get their hands on the free web browser which the makers say boasts better performance, security features and speed.
"We're about 10 times faster than Internet Explorer 7," Mozilla developer Mike Beltzner said.
More than 18 months of development have been poured into the product aimed at improving the Web experience for the browser's 170 million users, reports InternetNews.com.
Mozilla hopes to dislodge market leader Microsoft, Internet Explorer 8 through the widely anticipated third offering.
Firefox 2 managed 1.6 million downloads on its first day.
