Facebook users attacked in phishing crooks
Members of social networking site Facebook have been targeted with a series of phishing scams designed to steal their personal details and expose them to online threats.
The site, which has 200 million members worldwide, was hit by cyber crooks on Thursday (May 14th) in an attack that has been confirmed by a company spokesperson.
Crooks are said to have breached the online security of some accounts and posted phishing messages on the site that directed users to fake Facebook log-in pages.
Those who entered their details on the replica pages may have had their user names and passwords stolen by the crooks although it is not known how many may have fallen victim.
According to Facebook, the crooks may have waited until they had more victims before launching into a mass spam attack on uninfected members.
The site comes as research from Money.co.uk shows that 30 per cent of UK consumers are unable to spot phishing emails.
