FAA employees at risk as hacker steals employee data
Employees of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are at risk of becoming victims of ID theft after someone compromised the online security of the organisation and stole their personal identity information.
More than 45,000 FAA employees are at risk following the online security breach that happened when the intruder electronically accessed a computer server that contained 48 files, two of which contained employee data.
The FAA issued a statement concerning the issue at the beginning of the week warning employees of the online security breach.
In the statement, the organisation said that it has "identified immediate steps as well as longer-term measures to further protect personal information".
Employees that have been affected are to be issued with a letter warning them of the matter and a toll-free number has also been set up "for those who believe they may be affected by the breach".
A similar breach last month also affected payment processor Heartland Payment Systems, which announced that it had found malware on its network.
