Experts warn of IP address theft in India
Consumers in India are being warned of a new online security threat to their PCs that may leave them facing terrorism investigations, reports the Times of India.
The warning comes following revelations that one of the emails regarding the recent Ahmedabad blasts originated from a computer which had been hacked into leaving the owners in shock.
"This appears to be the first time that a local IP address has been hacked into for terror purposes", the paper states.
"Worldwide, terror has closely been linked with technology," said internet security expert Vijay Mukhi.
"It works on the basic principle of 'I' being 'you'. And once I am you, I can do exactly what you do."
He warned consumers that lack of proper firewalls and effective antivirus software makes it easy for hackers to gain access to their machines.
The said computer used for the terror email belonged to two Americans, who reported that nothing of value seems to have been stolen.
