Experts warn of increasing hacker interest on Macs
Online security experts have revealed that Macintosh users are increasingly drawing attention from hackers keen on causing online security issues and cyber crime activity on the popular machines.
According to the experts, the hackers are drawn to the Macs and iPhones due to their increasing popularity over the last few months.
"There are more eyes looking over Apple products for vulnerabilities," Zero Day Initiative (ZDI) security vulnerability analyst Cameron Hotchkies told AFP.
"It has slowly been growing as a target people are more and more interested in."
He revealed that with iPhone 3G, which was hacked in to within hours after its launch in July, the motivation is 'liberation' from the shackles of exclusive deals tying the appliance to telecom giants.
This, he says shows hackers are increasingly becoming adept at analyzing Apple software.
The new interest is partly due to efforts by Apple to make their machines friendlier to running programs popular on Windows-based computers.
