Experts warn of growing online threats
Online security experts have underscored the need to have working internet security software by describing the threat landscape as catastrophic, it has been reported.
Presenting their views at the CeBIT high-tech expo, the experts from German's Federal Office for Information Security said internet users are constantly being targeted by online threats, reports Red Orbit.
Viruses, worms and trojan horses are increasingly being launched by cyber crooks against internet users, even though consumers are gaining more awareness about their security, they said.
"The situation is serious, it is even more catastrophic than we feared," said BSI division chief Hartmut Isselhorst. "We are all being attacked. As soon as we go online we become the target of attacks."
According to the researchers, visiting popular websites can also lead to exposure to online threats as cyber crooks have engineered viruses that can sneak their way into people's hard drives while on the sites.
Having regularly updated anti-virus software can prevent such threats from getting into a computer.
