Experts warn Conficker is on attack mode
Security experts are now warning that the Conficker worm may after all be up to no good and is now slowly being activated, which poses an internet security threat for consumers, it has emerged.
The worm grabbed international headlines a few weeks back when reports spread that the malicious software would launch into attack on April 1st but the day passed with nothing major being reported.
However, the malware, which is also known as Downadup or Kido is now slowly being activated and is silently turning thousands of machines into slaves for spam distribution, according to Reuters.
Vincent Weafer, a vice president with online security firm Symantec, says the worm's creators have started using the infected machines to target consumers.
"This is probably one of the most sophisticated botnets on the planet," Paul Ferguson, a senior researcher with Trend Micro is quoted by the news provider as stating.
He added that "the guys behind this are very professional. They absolutely know what they are doing".
