Expert 'unsurprised at rising Trojans'

It is not a surprise that the number of Trojan infections is climbing rather than falling, an expert has commented.

Security commentator Douglas Schweitzer made his assertion in a post for online resource Computer World, noting that many such infections gain access to a PC by duping users into downloading and installing software.

"What they get instead is some sometimes serious malware," he continued.

"After notifying the victim that their computer's been infected they offer anti-spyware which of course is bogus, as well."

He urged PC users to conduct research when considering what anti-virus software to use and never to download it from an unknown source.

It is vital that people never download a program which simply appears on their screen "out of the blue".

The term Trojan refers to a program which initially appears to be desirable but actually contains harmful, unwanted and malicious software.

Often they initially appear to be a video, game or useful program.
