EU launches 'unbreakable' security solution
The European Union has unveiled an online security solution that is being touted as unbreakable after undergoing the first successful test run in Vienna.
Scientists from the EU's Development of a Global Network for Secure Communication based on Quantum Cryptography (SECOQC) project have launched a new encryption system earmarked for public use.
It is hoped the security solution will be commercialised within three years, according AFP.
"Potential users of this network, such as government agencies, financial institutions or companies with distributed subsidiaries, can encrypt their confidential communication with the highest level of security," SECOQC said in a statement.
According to the creators, the technology works by sending streams of light particles, which makes it entirely secure as attempts to compromise it would leave traces that would lead to immediately detection.
Some 12 European countries including the UK and Canada participated in the four and half year multi-million pound project that involved contribution from universities.
