e-retail industry keen on eliminating online security fears
The e-retail industry is working to eliminate online security fears and concerns such as ID theft, which are reported to be discouraging consumers from buying things on the internet.
According to the Internet Media in Retail Group (IMRG), the industry is exploring various initiatives such as the use of the Internet Shopping is Safe (ISIS) scheme to improve internet security in retailing.
"It's a trust mark and basically what we are looking for retailers to do is to join the trust and to display the logo on their site," IMRG director of operations David Smith said of the ISIS initiative.
"If the consumer sees the particular logo on the retailer's site then it gives them even more confidence," he stated, adding that credit card companies were also doing their bit to make the scene safer through Visa secure.
His comments were made in reaction to the publication of a report by the Office of Fair Trading, which showed that nearly one in three internet users are not shopping online due to lack of trust in the platform.
