Email insecurity highlighted by Lord West
The UK parliamentary under-secretary for security and counter-terrorism has highlighted the amount of insecurity surrounding emails claiming that they are even less secure than postcards.
According to Lord West, many people's online security and privacy can easily be compromised through emails, which he described as a "pretty frightening" scenario, according to the Telegraph.
He explained that a lot of information can be gleaned from email communications by anyone without much trouble.
"I can tell you what can be gained by all sorts of other people by looking at people's emails is horrifying," he stated.
"People do not understand when they go on their emails, when they go on their little screens that actually they are telling more people in the world what they are writing than if they wrote a postcard and stuck it in the mail."
Good online practices and internet security measures such as using encryption can prevent unwanted eyes from accessing private information.
