East London identified as ID fraud hotspot
ID theft, which leads to ID fraud, continues to be a major internet security issue for many consumers and east London has been identified as the region most at risk of this crime in the British Isles.
According to a new fraud ranking developed by credit reference agency Callcredit, east London leads nine other areas of London in the top ten most fraudulent areas.
Known fraud cases, house prices, the electoral roll, unemployment data and geo-demographic data were used to come up with the ranking, which Owen Roberts, head of the online credit report provider says can be prevented.
"People can certainly do things to help put themselves at a lower risk of falling victim," he said.
"Taking simple steps such as shredding documents, protecting your PC and regularly checking your credit report can help you to stay safe and make life harder for the criminals."
According to earlier data from the organisation, 54 per cent of British people are more concerned about ID fraud now than they were 12 months ago.
