Don't let your guard down, expert warns
Internet users have been warned not to let their online security guard down in light of the recent failure to deploy and cause chaos by the Conficker worm despite predictions.
According to online security firm MXLogic, this may just be a ploy by hackers to deceive people into relaxing with the misguided notion that the coast is clear, before they launch an attack.
"Given all the recent media attention surrounding the Conficker botnet, it's not entirely surprising that nothing really happened on April 1st," said the company.
"However, spammers are a tricky bunch and know that the massive attention will subside and that users will eventually let their guards down again."
The internet security specialist went on to warn that the upcoming April 15th US tax deadline and the Easter Holiday may just see Conficker launch into a large-scale attack this month, hence the importance of remaining vigilant.
Conficker has left millions of computers worldwide infected and security professionals had predicted that the worm would cause disruption on April 1st.
