DNS flaw details leaked to the web
Details of a major flaw in the internet's Domain Name System (DNS) that were earlier brought to light by researcher Dan Kaminski have been erroneously revealed, reports Computer World.
Zynamics.com CEO Thomas Dullien whose hacker name is Halvar Flake apparently released the details, even though he says he knew very little about DNS.
Matasano Security, who had been briefed on the issue, confirmed the findings in a blog post, which was pulled down in five minutes, but not before spreading widely across the web.
The post said: "The cat is out of the bag. Yes, Halvar Flake figured out the flaw Dan Kaminsky will announce at Black Hat [security conference in August]."
IOActive researcher Dan Kaminski made the discovery months ago and had kept the details of the problem secret in a bid to give consumers time to take appropriate measures against it.
The flaw in the foundation of the internet threatened to grant hackers a field day on the web, which prompted remedial measures from online heavyweights Microsoft, Cisco and the Internet Systems Consortium.
