Data loss 'damages reputations'
Businesses which lose data, perhaps through a security breach, can suffer damage to their reputations as well as financial losses, an expert has asserted.
A spokeswoman for Small Business Computing, an IT services company based in London, said businesses should take steps to enforce their security policies in order to prevent such data leaks from occurring.
Information is valuable to firms and there is usually a financial impact when it goes missing, she continued.
However, such losses can "also impact on the integrity and the reputation of the business. Losing data that is important can breach confidentiality", the spokeswoman concluded.
British advice portal Get Safe Online urges businesses to pay close attention to online threats to ensure they are legally compliant and fully protected.
It recommends they train staff about internet security and prevent their employees from "cyberslacking" as this increases their susceptibility to virus and spyware attack at work.
