'Dangerous' malware discovered
A UK news website claims to have discovered a new online threat attacking computers and compromising their internet security.
The Inquirer, which has discovered the malware it is describing as "dangerous", says this threat hijacks browsers in computers whose online security has been hampered.
Once hijacked, the browsers are then directed to a fake site "masquerading as AVG's own front page" says the website, whose claims have been verified by an online security expert.
"Cybercrime is moving away from inflicting the maximum damage in the shortest time towards remaining undetected for the longest period and extracting the maximum cash," said the expert.
He went on to say that the best example of this phenomenon is avg-online-scanner.com, a software that deceives people into downloading a product that will only lead to them being asked to pay money to get rid of non existent threats.
Having regularly updated internet security software is recommended to prevent being exposed to such online threats.
