Dangerous Harry Potter malware found
A dangerous piece of malware which is focused on the release of the latest Harry Potter film has been detected.
BitDefender claims to have found a "wave of spam attacks" which attempt to direct PC users to a free broadcast of the new Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Price feature film.
They are now redirected to an infected website where a warning message is displayed and, by clicking either "Ok" or "cancel", the user triggers a fake movie which mimics an on-going virus scan.
At the end, the user is advised to download Rogue Trojian to eliminate malware files, however clicking on this warning initiates the actual malware, which steals credit card information from the PC.
Vlad Valceanu, head of BitDefender's anti-spam research, said: "Internet users should be cautious of any sites promising free screenings of the latest Harry Potter movie."
A video showing an ESPN sports presenter stripping in a hotel room has been used by cybercriminals, by disguising dangerous malware as movie players showing the clips.
