Cybercrooks target British firms
British companies are being targeted by sophisticated and successful cybercriminals, a new report has revealed.
A study commissioned by the British Chambers of Commerce has shown that over the previous 12 months, 94 per cent of firms have suffered spam and 31 per cent have been the victim of fraudulent phishing emails.
Furthermore, the report found that 23 per cent have been hit by spyware infections and 19 per cent have been damaged by data loss or computer failure as a result of virus infection.
"Spyware infection and phishing attempts affect proportionally more businesses with fewer than 50 staff - with a turnover less than £1 million - and those working from home," it noted.
The BCC research showed that as many as three-quarters of British businesses believe there should be a national body created to tackle e-crime threats.
UK resource Get Safe Online urges businesses to remember that within the online world, they are also at risk of identity theft, just like individuals.
The web resource suggests they make the most of anti-virus software, firewalls and passwords which are hard to crack.
