Cybercrooks seek PC-users' money
Online crooks want to steal money from web users and to date have taken "hundreds of millions of dollars" through organised cybercrime, an expert has asserted.
Anthony Nesavich and William H Inmon, of Inmon Data Systems, made their comments to online resource InformIT, warning that both the amount and the sophistication of such crime is rising.
"The customer has access to his bank account through the web. All the attacker needs to do is to cause the customer to divulge his account name and password," they explained.
Alternatively, an online thief can use malware to hack into a PC and take control, the two experts continued.
Mr Nesavich and Mr Inmon noted that some criminals use another person's machine to commit crime and such computers are known as bots or zombies.
America's National Crime Prevention Council urges consumers to be wary of online threats such as viruses, worms, spyware, phishing and identity theft.
