Cybercriminals targeting social networking sites
Cybercriminals are upping their attacks on social networking sites, according to new research.
A study by Sophos highlights that a quarter of firms have been exposed to spam emails, phishing attacks or malware via popular sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
It was also revealed that two-thirds of business bosses are concerned their staff are detailing too much sensitive data on their social network pages which could put their firm at risk.
"What's needed is a period of introspection - for the big Web 2.0 companies to examine their systems and determine how, now they have gathered a huge number of members, they are going to protect them from virus writers, identity thieves, spammers and scammers," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at the firm.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Twitter users who had been infected with the Koobface malware had been clocked from the social networking site.
According to Trend Micro's threat researcher Ryan Flores, a few hundred accounts have been infected by the Koobface malware.
