Cyber crooks put on notice as new body is set up to fight them
An alliance to counter the increasing threat posed by cyber crooks has been established in China, reports say.
The China Anti-phishing Website Alliance is made up of Chinese banks, online security institutions, e-commerce websites and domain name management companies in a bid to tackle phishing and related issues.
One of the main drivers will be better management of domain names and domain name servers which cyber criminals have been attacking and exposing users to online threats.
The move comes in the wake of increased phishing attacks involving crooks imitating urls, pages and contents of websites in order to steal private information such as passwords and bank account numbers.
The attacks have been rising in numbers and sophistication over the last few years and the new body will also blacklist websites or individuals involved in causing online privacy issues.
More than five banking institutions are part of the alliance which comes as a University of Michigan study highlights that more than 75 per cent of banking websites are flawed.
