Cyber crooks out to cause havoc with iPhone game
Gaming enthusiasts and users of the iPhone have been warned to steer clear of emails purporting to grant access to a popular iPhone game, it has emerged.
Cyber crooks are reportedly sending out messages with tags such as : "Virtual iPhone games!"
"Take a break!"
"Apple: The most popular game!"
"Virtual iPhone toys!" and "Beet my score! (7000 points)!".
According to online security firm Sophos, the email messages are spammed with a file called Penguin.Panic.zip and opening them could lead to an exposure to online threats.
"The enclosed file [is] the Troj/Agent-HNY Trojan horse. It's important to note that this Trojan only works on Windows PCs - we haven't seen any versions which will run on Mac OS X, Apple iPhone or other mobile devices," said Graham Cluley of Sophos.
Cluley advised internet users to check with their internet security software vendors to see if a protection update is available.
Such scams are routinely used by hackers to trick users into exposing their personal data, which apart from ID theft can be used for criminal activity.
