Cyber crooks lure victims with Obama job rejection news
Internet security experts are warning end users not to fall for spam messages claiming forthcoming US president Barack Obama plans to turn down his new job as president.
Cyber crooks are capitalising on the huge media interest tomorrow's (January 20th) inauguration is drawing and trying to lure gullible people into fake websites with hidden online threats.
"All the links point to a file called speech.exe, which is a Waledec malware variant," says online security firm F-Secure. "The site is hosted via fast fluxing all over the world."
Marshal8e6 TRACE Labs has also highlighted the same issue saying despite the fact that the fake website looks official and convincing, numerous grammatical errors give it away.
However, the company said it was unfortunate that some internet users will fall for the scam and follow the links thereby infecting themselves.
The US Computer Emergency Response Team also last week warned that cyber crooks were exploiting the event.
