Cyber crooks launch Olympics related scams
Security researchers have compiled a list of Olympic Games-related phishing scams that internet users should watch out for, reports Channel Web.
Just as predicted before the games started, cyber crooks and malware writers have launched a series of these scams intent on making the best of the well publicised media event.
MessageLabs researchers have detected quite a number of these scams and are now warning internet users not to fall for them or risk compromising their online security.
Among the scams are: Beijing Olympics cancelled, moved to Atlanta; Beijing takes dog off the menu for Olympics - Yahoo! News and Obama buys 10 million Olympics ad.
Others to watch out for include: 2008 Olympic Games will possibly not take place; Athletes ponder wearing masks to fight pollution - Olympics - Yahoo! Sports; 2008 Olympic Games are under the threat and Learn Chinese for the Olympics.
According to MessageLabs, national sports bodies and senior personalities are also being targeted by e-mail scams purpoting to be from the International Olympics Organisation.
