Cyber crooks hit French president
The extent to which cyber crooks will go in order to cause online security issues for everyone - including the French president - has been highlighted following news that cyber crooks stole from him.
According to French government officials, "small sums of money" were siphoned out of Nicholas Sarkozy's account after hackers managed to get hold of his password and log in details.
Speaking on French radio, Luc Chatel, secretary of state for consumer affairs criticised internet vulnerabilities saying: "[This] proves the system of internet checking is not infallible.
"These cases are sufficiently rare that we haven't had to really organise ourselves, but [are] sufficiently serious for us to reflect on how to improve the system."
The news comes in the wake of revelations from the Association for Payment Clearing Services that online banking fraud through incidents of such phishing attacks and ID theft has risen by 185 per cent since 2007.
