Cyber crooks attack Lithuanian websites
Hundreds of Lithuanian websites have become victim to an attack by Russian cyber crooks.
Yesterday, government officials confirmed that more than 300 websites based in the Baltic nation were subjected to a cyber attack.
Each of the affected sites had their regular content covered over with communist images on a red background portraying the flag of the Soviet Union.
These pictures included the well-known hammer and sickle. Websites affected by the attack included the official portal of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party.
Accompanying the images was a message, written in Russian, which according to news sources from the country translated as, "You, scum, have gone crazy".
Juozas Olekas, defence minister for Lithuania, said that the event could be treated as a "cyber attack against Lithuania".
Hackers have been causing major problems for governments worldwide. Reports recently revealed government and private computer networks in India have been facing a deluge of attacks from Chinese hackers.
